FAQ’s
What is the Great American Road Trip?
A 5 part mini-series documentary/reality show that tells the story of 4 guys on a quest for adventure using the Blue Ridge Mountains and the highways of North Carolina as the back drop. This is a smaller trip than what was originally planned. Initially, the thought was to take the quintessential road trip and traveling Route 66 (Chicago, IL to Santa Monica, CA) but to do the trip any justice would’ve been an arm and a leg financially.
What’s the idea behind the project?
I (Dan) wanted to get out on the road and meet people, hear their stories, and learn about an area of the country I’d never traveled through. Making stops at places I’d never been in that were just waiting for me in my backyard.
When did you record this?
We jumped in the “Green Machine” in June 2007
What separates this from any other road trip project?
Great question! This is a high quality project aimed at building a grass roots following and a digital distribution.
Digital distribution?
Instead of using tape or DVD’s to get this project into the hands of viewers or seeking out traditional distribution in theaters or pursuing TV rights, we thought we’d push the envelope of “New Media”. This new media, usually classified by podcasts and blogging is 100% digital and highly accessible, allows for mass distribution with minimal overhead. As far as we know, this is the first feature of it’s type to really harness this technology and push the envelope of the medium.
How can I see the film?
The weekly installments are available for download through iTunes or RSS aggregator. Click here to subscribe to the feed. They are also available for viewing on the web, courtesy of VIRB.com Check out our profile, click here to watch.
The trip is called “Great American” but didn’t you just go to Durham, NC and back?
Yes, and Great American is the vision but for our first venture we didn’t have the budget for a major feature. We have to walk before we can run.
Will there be more trips?
We sure hope so, this has been a neat project to do and getting to know the people of Virginia and North Carolina has been incredible. From here we’ll be monitoring the response to the project as well as seeking funding for a series.
